RACINE IDPA – March 3rd Match
The next Racine IDPA match is coming up this Saturday, March 3rd, 2012. The match is being held indoors at Shooter’s Sport Center in Racine. Directions can be found on our web site at http://www.racineidpa.com.
Setup and range preparation will start at 5:30 PM. Registration will also begin at 5:30 PM. Safety meeting will be at 6:15 PM with shooting to start immediately after. We will not be stopping for dinner, so please make sure to eat dinner before attending the match. You MUST attend the safety meeting to be able to shoot. If you arrive late and miss the safety meeting you will not be able to shoot. Also, eye and ear protection and a brimmed type hat are required.
COURSES OF FIRE
This month features three stages plus a side match. Concealment will be mandatory for some of the stages. Ammo requirements would suggest bringing a minimum of 50 rounds for the main match. The side match will require 5 rounds from a BUG (BackUp Gun), as well as 6 rounds from your usual handgun.
Match fee is $15 for Racine IDPA members, $18 for all non-members. Please note- the match fee for non-members will increase to $20 at the April match.
NEW SHOOTERS
If you are a new shooter, we ask that you do not gear up until we meet to discuss safety rules, equipment placement (holster and mag carriers), and cover some of the basic rules of IDPA.
SAFETY OFFICERS
We plan on 2 squads, and we need at least 6 people to step forward. If you can SO please email me at idpa_tom@comcast.net. Safety Officers will also be responsible for the initial stage setup.
MATCH DIRECTOR
Tom Ropers will be the Match Director at this match.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
With the increased attendance we've been experiencing, we've decided to make a few changes to our matches. These changes will be phased in gradually, and will hopefully allow all of us to get home at a more reasonable hour than we have been recently. The first change is going to a 3+1 format for our indoor matches, meaning 3 stages for the main match and 1 stage for the side match. Another change is asking for at least six Safety Officers to step forward for each indoor match. These S.O.'s will also be responsible for stage set up. Lastly, we'll start the safety briefing before the stages are completely set up, and hold the safety briefing in the lobby area at Shooters so that the S.O.'s can finish the initial stage set up.
Some future changes that are coming are increasing the non-member match fee to $20 (which will start at the April 7th match), and requiring membership in National IDPA in order to become a member of Racine IDPA (starting with the 2013 membership year). We're also working on holding a second match each month over the winter (except in December), and splitting up the match attendance between the two. Assuming we can get Shooters' Sports Center to agree to holding a second match, our plan is to have the first match of the month be limited to members of IDPA, and the second match open to anyone. Shooters would only be able to shoot one of the matches unless they act as an S.O. or Match Director. Both matches would use the same course of fire. The December match would be limited to only members of Racine IDPA and include a potluck dinner as well as our member prize drawing.
The 2012 Member t-shirts have been ordered and should be available for pickup at this match. Please remember that the club is funding the first $10 per member for shirts. Any cost over that is the responsibility of the member.
We have two raffles going right now- the regular club raffle for a Ruger LC9 9mm pistol and a charity fundraising raffle for Wisconsin Special Olympics for a GSG-522SD package (GSG-522SD rifle, 2 extra magazines, 525rd box of .22LR ammo). Ed Sendele, who led our fundraising efforts last summer, ended up as one of the top fundraisers for Wisconsin Special Olympics in a pretty short period of time. We're hoping to raise much more for them this year, and will hold a number of raffles over the course of the year as fundraisers. We will also continue to hold our regular club raffles. As of this email, there are 41 tickets left for the Ruger, and we need to sell at least 31 more for the GSG-522 bundle.
If anyone has any suggestions for stages, please send them my way. I'm always interested in other peoples' stage design, and while I can't guarantee they'll get used at any particular match, the odds are good that they'll get used eventually. Please keep in mind that the designs may be modified to keep them IDPA-legal or to fit the range the match is held at.
Lastly, if you have any old t-shirts that you'd like to get rid of, please donate them to Racine IDPA. Occasional stages will make use of old shirts over targets to add to the realism of the stage.
Come ready to shoot and have some fun.
See you on Saturday.
