An IDPA Sanctioned event consisting of three separate matches where individuals can accrue points and introducing the concept of Team competition to the sport. The first match will be held on July 30th, 2011 at the Universal Shooting Academy range located in Frostproof, Florida. The second match will be held the weekend of October 1st using stages from the IDPA World Championship and the third match will be the weekend of December 17th featuring stages with less than optimum lighting.
Here is the concept starting with these core beliefs;
1) IDPA is a shooting sport that breeds camaraderie with shooters of different backgrounds but share a common interest in the sport. The majority of this is built around our local clubs.
2) The State of Florida is the third largest state in IDPA with the number of local clubs and there is a cadre of shooters from around the State who are regulars at State Championship events.
3) IDPA, and in fact most competitive shooting is founded on the principal of individual performance meaning recognition is based solely on your performance.
4) Now, with the new point system introduced AND the World Championship being held in Florida, there are a number of shooters in the region who want to participate. They need points.
Based on the above:
· There is a potential to double up on the opportunity to recognize more shooters as competitors while benefiting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The thought in doing so, the sport recognizes those Americans who lost their lives serving, while at the same time recognizing more shooters using a new concept of competition. It also gives Sponsors a chance to participate in a charitable event.
· The new concept allows for a Challenge Series which is an annual event consisting of 3 sanctioned matches each one every 4 months with a total of at least 30 stages in a single year.
· All competitors will enter as individuals in one or more of the matches and, as with any sanctioned match, the event allows each individual:
1. more opportunity to gain points within the new IDPA Point system,
2. allows additional opportunities for placement and recognition at sanctioned events,
· In addition to this, each IDPA Club or group of shooters has the opportunity to send one or more teams to compete on a team basis. The scoring system uses a point system taken from the placement of individuals at each match. The point system awards points in a manner that gives weight to shooters from entry level classifications in each division as well as those shooters in Expert and Master Class divisions. This means that a club submitting names for a team will benefit by having a mix of shooters in every classification and division for the best opportunity to win the Triple Crown Trophy. This trophy is awarded every year to the team earning the most points at the completion of the three sanctioned matches. The award would encompass a Team Trophy with plaques awarded to each team member who participated in the competition.
· The team point system is based on a simple method of inverting the placement of shooters in their respective division and classification. So for example, if there are 10 shooters in a single division, say SSP Marksman, the 1st place shooter wins 10 points for his team. The 3rd Place shooter wins 8 points and the last place shooter wins 1 point. Safety Officers and staff that are Team members receive an additional 2 points for their team.
· Teams are formulated by any Group or IDPA club putting forward a list of names of registered individual shooters at each match in groups of 5, picking a name for your team and paying the Team Entrance fee in the name of the team. One shooter representing each of the 5 gun Divisions. By keeping the number at 5 shooters per team, the club is forced to use strategy in the team selection. A club may send more than one team in fact for the event to be a success, this is highly desirable. Each match, the team members may change over the course of a year but the Team Name or Number must remain the same.
· The Match will be held on neutral territory, that being Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida. The range has over 30 bays and facilities to support additional side matches and practice.
· The Teams can find sponsors (industry or local businesses) to pay for the Team Entry Fee (as a charitable donation), or the club may pay the fee. The Fee for the teams pay for the team awards and 100% of the remaining proceeds remaining are sent to the SOWF. The cost of the match is paid for by the individual shooters.
· Match Fee for Individuals is $100 per shooter. Immediate family members receive a 25% discount for each additional shooter.
· The registration fee for Teams is $300 per team for the 3 matches. (As it may be difficult for teams to keep the same 5 shooters together for the entire one year match series, substitutions of no more than 2 shooters per match will be allowed.) No more than 7 team members for the year. Teams can elect to pay a portion of the registration fee at each match in an effort to defray the initial cost of entering the event as long as the full payment is completed by first shots on December 17th.
· At the end of the year, Trophies are awarded the top performing teams for 1st. 2nd, and 3rd place finishes for the Triple Crown. Additional information on recognition and shooting awards will be posted on the web site.
· Additional side matches and warm up bays can be made available, such as Man on Man Steel shoot offs and Steel Challenge bays on the range. A Safety Officer will need to be present at all times.
· The web site for updates and registration will be www.IDPATripleCrown.com
· Area Coordinators and Invited guests will shoot as guests of the MD’s.
