Greetings all,
I found the link to this list on the YahooGroups IDPA list. I tend not to make a lot of posts, but I'll jump in when I can. A little bio info on me, FWIW:
I'm a retired police sergeant from Ohio, now living in Fla. I started shooting "combat matches" at the Ft. Harmar club in Marietta, Ohio in the mid-70's, prior to and after the formation of IPSC. (And, yes, IPSC was just like IDPA at its beginning!)
I dropped out of IPSC in the early 80's when it changed to the sport that it has become, as I feared that some of the things I was doing on the range would get me hurt on the street. (Now retired, I keep telling myself that I should shoot an USPSA match once in a while... maybe one of these days.)
When I heard of the formation of IDPA, and that it was being organized by most of the original IPSC founders, I joined immediately. Business and personal problems kept me from being as active as I would have liked for the first several years; but after the divorce was final, I began shooting at least 2 or 3 matches a month.
I've been a L.E. firearms Instructor since 1978, and I still teach basic L.E. firearms to recruits, and also conduct CCW and armed personal protection classes at a local firing range; last year I was able to organize an IDPA chapter at the range. So I'm now the match director of The Gun Shop IDPA, in Leesburg, Fl. I also became a Safety Officer Instructor; and at the urging and encouragement of the former A/C, my good friend Tom Goethe, on Jan. 2, 2003, I became the IDPA Florida Area Coordinator.
My other interests are my "flock" of 8 parrots (No, I don't have a 'tidy' or quiet house!), ranging from a 2oz. Green-Cheeked Conure, to a Harlequin Macaw, over 40" long, and capable of making you run for your ear-protection! Its a constant challenge keeping up with critters who are nearly as smart as you are.
I'm glad to be a part of the list. I've always found shooter's in general, and IDPA members in particular, to be a friendly bunch.... I love being part of "The Gun Culture"!
