"Hi, I'm Bob and I am a shooter." I guess there is some relationship to the additiction thing. Except we are addicted to shooting. :>)
My name, as you can tell from my "clever" handle is Robert Carr. I'm not as old as Ray Crum, but I hope to be as fiesty as he is in 5 years.
I retired from the Air Force after 22 years working mostly on Minuteman warheads. (Talk about firepower!) I then went to work for GE in Philadelphia (which is why Melissa lives in NJ, but that's another story.) We got sold to Martin Marietta, then merged with Lockheed to become Lockheed Martin. I got transferred to Utah in 1997, where it is easier to buy a handgun than an adult beverage.
I bought my first centerfire pistol at a gun show shortly after I arrived here. A real POS called a Jennings 9. I keep it as a reminder of "you get what you pay for." Then I got a Ruger P-95, again because it was cheap. While at the range, shooting off a concrete bench at a bullseye target, the RO asked me if I "wanted to learn how to shoot that thing defensively?" "Huh?" was my intelligent reply. That was 4 years and 3 new handguns ago. I've been hooked on IDPA ever since.
I take great pride in infecting other members of my family. My oldest daughter, Melissa is my first "convert." My brother Alan, the staid, stoic JC Penney store manager shoots "combat" in Iowa. (No IDPA clubs nearby, sadly.)
I have CCW permits from Utah, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Florida which allow me to carry in 26 states, now that Colorado has seen the light. Like Larry says, I carry 18/7.
I have met many of you in the past year or so, and hope to meet many more of you at matches around the country. We are hosting the Utah State Championship in September, hope some of you can make it here for that.
Stay safe and keep your gun hand free.
