Hi All:
Im Neil, have been shooting IDPA for five years or so, and thought it might be kind of fun to join a forum that talks about IDPA and related topics.
In truth, Bob Carr e-mailed me a while back and suggested I consider joining. If youve read Bobs introductory post, he talked about an RO who approached him one day while he was shooting bullseye targets with his pistol off a concrete bench, and asked him if he wanted to learn how to shoot that thing defensively? Well, that was me.
Anyway, I started shooting back when I was about six years old, started building reloads when I was about nine (on home-made equipment the Old Man made while he was working as a machinist for Remington Arms during WWII), and first got in to defensive pistol shooting back in the early 70s (yes, Im that old). Shortly after that, life got kind of busy and I got away form any kind of formal pistol shooting for a couple of decades.
A little over five years ago, I became friends with a coworker who was also into guns. He and I made a practice of frequenting the local indoor range during lunch every week or so for informal practice. After a wile, he found out the Utah Defensive Pistol League was holding IDPA matches in an adjoining county. We shot a couple of their matches, and, at my friends prompting, decided to form our own club.
Shortly thereafter, a few of us got together and formed the Northern Utah Defensive Pistol Association. I was doing volunteer RO duty at the range where we hold our main club matches when I bumped into Bob.
Anyway, Ive met a lot of pretty nice folks and made a few good friends through IDPA-related activities, and hope that trend continues here.
Neil
