As an SSR gun, tested it today with .45AR 230gr Berry bullet with 3.3gr of Clays makes 130PF, also ran it with moonclips and .45acp brass bringing the load up to 3.8grs of Clays and the same bullet makes 167PF, gun feels good if Pachmayr Gripper grips are used (for 167pf), for IDPA this gun is a good all round gun, service sights are good, fits the rules for both SSR/ESR, just my 2 cents worth. I occasionally shoot my 3 and 4 inch Model 29s in SSR but only when I feel like being non-competitive. A 250 grain SWC is going to recoil a lot more than a 158 even when it is only moving at 750 - 800 fps and the N frame grip is just a hair too big for me. So when it comes to revolvers and I, the fixed sight 4" K frame is king. Jose Rossy A33749

I won a couple of sanctioned matches in my class with each of them. Try using a heavy bullet at 500 fps and let me know how that works out for you. When I tried it with the gun sighted in at 10 yards, the bullets impacted two FEET low at 25 yards. If you do not want to practice archery, you need to be up in the 750 to 800 fps range. The big guns are fun to shoot, but if I want to do well these days, I stick to 38 Special in a 357 medium frame. Ken

The worst problem is that N frame grips are just big enough to make the gun not point naturally like a K frame does. On top of that 44 cal bullets are quite a bit more expensive than 38 cal ones. So I agree with Ken, medium frame revolvers shooting 38 Special are the way to go. Jose Rossy A33749

Posts: 62 (09/02/09 06:39:01) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Thing that keeps me from shooting 45 ACP with Auto Rim down loaded is the lost brass rule in most matches. 45 AR is expensive not going to find it used as range brass. Leave it behind in SSR with no Moon Clips. Better to use a 38 which will probably shoot higher scores anyway. On your down loads. I use 4.0 Clays and a 230 LRN for PF loads in my 4 inch 625 . Also load for a 3 inch boot grip equipped 625 used in BUG matches. I found light charges of clays to be inconsistent and have gone to the same 4.0 Clays charge with a lighter bullet. 200 gr makes a significant difference in recoil., Recoil is more bullet weight than powder charge Bill Last Edited By: Boats 09/02/09 06:45:06. Posts: 37 (09/02/09 07:40:49) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	My 625 makes 165+PF with 3.8g of Clays as does the Mod-22, on the down loads (125+PF) 3.4g Clays is cleaner and gives around 140PF I also crimp a little more on the low loads(.466), helps a good deal. .45ar brass, at a club level match you should get it back, at a major match most stages are 12 rounds so you keep the last six anyway (unload show clear) and most SO's don't care if you pick up special type brass, or pick it up when pasting, just something to think on. Regards, DB PS Jose, nothing wrong with bunny fart loads, if PF is 125 and you are above that your in the rules, if a .38spl is loaded to a 127pf and a .45 is loaded to 135pf , what one is the bunny fart in SSR. That means 158 grain .38 Special SWCs at 900 fps, 147 grain 9x19 rpund nose bullets at 950 fps, and 240 grain .44 SWCs at 800 fps. My revolver reloads are all SWCs as they can be pressed into defensive service and still be very effective. Jose Rossy A33749
