Thanks, but here is an extension of that question that has bubbled to the surface today as I shop.
It extends beyond IDPA, which my current apreciation of the sport seems to be the norm for so many shooters. Taking the Loaded Springfield 1911, in 9mm ( as much as I love 45 acp it is just more expensive to shoot any way you slice it) my understanding is that you still shoot IDPA in the ESP division, (can you shoot in the SSP with a loaded or must you move to ESP) and can shoot that same gun in IPSC...how many IPSC shooters are shooting 9mm? I figure there must be a good number. |

1911s, regardless of caliber, are single action guns. No go in SSP.
You can shoot the 9mm 1911 in ESP. You can also go over to USPSA and compete in Limited, Limited 10, and Single Stack. However, you will be shooting minor power factor instead of major. The consequence of that is that less accurate shots (those into the B,C, and D zones) award less points than shooting with major. In single stack, you also get to load your magazines with one more round than those shooting .40 and .45 |

Thanks for solid clarification on SSP regarding the 1911. So the only "detriment" you can see for a 1911 is in USPSA by shooting minor power factor
in stead of major. Is this a real detriment, a good place to begin or should it be avoided? As for the extra round do you view that as a positive in the USAPA,
IPSC, and just to be clear with regards to IDPA there is no draw back at all.
I appreciate all the help, I recognize this also is the classic no one perfect gun for everything, and that I am leaning toward the 9mm for simple cost reasons, I can find 9mm at 13.00 a box, 45 will run me 22.00, I can shoot alot more 9. Also I am right now based on my situation, going to be more active in the IDPA and growing in to the other pistol sports over time, the 1911 "is my gun" I have always shot them best, even the cheapo, which is why I am at this juncture. |

Shooting minor power factor in USPSA is a definite disadvantage... if you expect to win.
If you want to develop your skills, you can learn to shoot and have a good time with the 9mm. When the difference in winning and losing is the difference between Major and Minor C-zone hits, then you will have an excuse to buy a new gun in .40 or .45... and a reloading press. |

so I have been looking at various items, accessories and so on. Well I am shooting this weekend, and if things are not working out, exactly as I hop with the
feel of this gun ( to gun feel is like shoes, if they dont fit they are unfortable and not the way to go)
I have landed on three total options 1. a Px 4 9mm this gun feels great and I shoot it well 2. the Springfield loaded 9mm is still high on the list 3. my new comer to the party after visiting the store today, a Browning HP the HP is SSP? |

No, the Browning HP is single action, therefore ESP. It also has a magazine disconnect, which can cause difficulty at unload and show clear.

Yea, I found that a little bit ago, and that it is recomended that you carry an empty mag for that purpose. Sweet gun, I just may find myself in esp.
