I don't see why it wouldn't be legal.
It appears to cover enough of the magazine, and the angle isn't extreme enough to break the limit (like the Springfield one does). Yes, legal. Would I use it? No, two singles are better than one double. |

Some folks like them for more flexible placement, i.e. one in front of a belt loop, one behind.
I personally don't care for mag pouches where the mags are tilted outwards like the one mentioned by the OP. I want 'em at the same angle. However, I've used double mag pouches exclusively for a long time now. Maybe I should branch out and try a pair of singles. I'm presently using a Safariland 079 and I'm quite happy with it. Koski |

You mention the Springfield mag holder being illegal. I assume you are referring to the dual holder that was included with the gun. Could you please point me
to the location of the thread that deals with this being deemed illegal. If you are referencing the rulebook in regards to the 10 degree rule, you need to get
your hands on a protractor and a Springfield mag holder, because the cant on both angles is 10 and -10. This creates a 100 and 80 degree hold on the magazines.
I have used this holder in sanctioned matches with no problems. I am going to be at one this weekend and don't want to run into any problems. Here is a
link to a protractor you can print out. http://www.dynapod.com/protractor2.jpg
Thank You

This is from the rulebook. I have no idea if the SA holders are within the allowed degree of vertical. I have seen lots of people using them.
F. Hold the magazine within 10 degrees of vertical (80-100° to the ground) position on the belt, no substantial forward or rear cant.

From the rulebook: page 36
E. Ammunition carriers. 1. IDPA Magazine Carrier Criteria F. Hold the magazine within 10 degrees of vertical (80-100° to the ground) position on the belt, no substantial forward or rear cant. I believe the Springfield one does not fall within the allowable cant, but measure yours to be sure. As for Dave's question, Steve answered the biggest reason. Another is the spread of the mags from each other. I like a bit more spread than double pouches allow for. The clip-on comp-tacs also allow me to easily move them from my IDPA belt to my USPSA belt. |

And if we can't get our hands on a real SA mag holder, here is a way to check the angles.
1. Print out the protractor at PROTRACTOR 2. Go to SA MAG HOLDER and scroll down to the pic of the mag holder. 3. Hold up you picture of the protractor to the screen and align the angles to the mag holder. This may not be an exact science, but it will put the kibosh to any talk of the SA mag holder being WAY out of spec. Thank You

Hard to tell by the picture. I'm going off of a fellow competitor and SO, who measured his own with the magazines in it, and found it over 10. YYMV. I
don't SO major matches, and certainly don't bring a protractor with me to local ones.

Using that picture, some triangles, a ruler, and SOHCAHTOA I get 10.8° for one side and 9.16° for the other side. Of course that's no better than I can
draw and guess.
