You might be able to shoot better with them, Drew, but I don't. I do, however, think that people who want to use them should be able to. Its an advancement for them.

Its not a necessary piece of equipment to remain competitive, and THAT is the definition of an equipment race. That horse is pretty tired, from all the use it gets outside of its purpose.

Advancements in technology are to be embraced, not banned as unfair, otherwise lets all ditch our semi-autos and get together to throw rocks at the targets.

Yes, I shoot better with a small surefire using the surefire method (hands together, cigar) than I do with the first-light, which by the way isn't close enough to a standard two handed grip. The inside handle breaks my weak hand away from the grip of the pistol. I get a better connection with a tube light. Have you ever used a first-light? They aren't the same as shooting with no light at all.

If your argument about them being a tactical advantage were valid, we'd see many more of them being used in competition, and used to win. I haven't seen a single winner use one yet, but then again, I don't spend alot of time worrying about what equipment other people are using. I spend more of my time improving my own game with my own equipment so I can add to my trophy collection, something harder and harder to do as I get to Master class in more divisions.

As it is, I think I've seen that light in one match in-person, and once on Shooting USA coverage of last year's S&W match. Its not a required piece of gear. Its only advantage, for those who find it suits them, is in a "flashlight in weak hand" start. In any other start, such as what the majority of matches are using, its actually a disadvantage to deploy and affix to your hand instead of just grabbing a tube-light and going to work.
