Am I over my head in ESP |
Lead | |
|
Hello everyone I just did my first classifier last Saturday using my XD 9mm tactical shot a score of 236.32. I wanted to make sure I was safe but BOY do I
suck. I also own an M&P 9mm which I could use in SSP but it is standard size. Within the next month I am going to get some training. The reason I did
not use the M&P was because I was waiting for mag pouch part but I purchase the XD just for IDPA but at the time of purchase I did not know you can only
use it for ESP and looks likes that division is the lower score splits. What do you folks think.

There is one thing about IDPA in that you are not so much competing against the other shooters but competing against yourself. As long as you improve, then you
are doing well and can feel good about it. I went 10 years without pulling a trigger and got back into shooting two years ago. I barely got past Novice in ESP
with my first Classifier Match. Now I am in the SS Class. I may never reach MA but I'll work at it and have fun while doing it.

Have fun, be safe, and dry practice, practice, practice.
I agree with Chuck, don't fret the other shooters, do better today than yesterday. George A35419 |

K,
Just go and have fun. Everyone who is new sucks. Don't worry about it. Have fun, your skills will improve over time. Koski |

Dragoon & kimberguy2004 I here great things about the STI equipment but on the California DOJ list I do not see any there which mean I can not really get
one. I know there are a lot of Springfield and some Kimber on the list. Is the STI Eagle 5.0 and Eagle double stacks?

You are were I was year ago, Already had a Browning HP and thought I was a pretty good pistol shot. 230 + classifier. I went to a M&P and payed attention
to the time wasters, now shooting the SSP comfortably in Marksman and think I can classify SS next time. Really don't hit center much better just learned
how to pace my self, go fast sometimes, slow down and get hits others. Most of the gun handling part is just being smooth and not wasting motion.
On the guns, I can shoot my HPower and absolutely Stock Colt 1911 OK but ergonomics with the new plastic pistols is just better. I took the Colt through the classifier not long ago, compared to the M&P really felt the disadvantage of small sights sticky mag release small mag well entrance and a safety that has to be disengaged. It can be done I classified it MM too. As much as I hate to say it those plastic pistols have there advantages. Don't plan to chop up the Colt though. Beyond the hardware couple of things helped me, getting a timer made a huge difference, and some reference materal, Steve Anderson's dry fire book and the Collins County TX IDPA web site, they have the best classifier tips. Good coach is a considerable advantage. One session with an experenced shooter from our club got me off the ground and going right direction. He is the guy that recomended the timer Andersons book and told me to leave the antique pistols at home. http://www.ccidpa.org/ Bill |

In ESP I use a springfield xd tactical 9mm. It is probably my favorite gun. I like my 1911's and glocks but it just shoots well for me. The only other
thing I want to do to the xd is a new set of sites. If I were you I would watch all the people at the range but only listen to a few. Find someone with a
similar shooting style as you. That way your not trying to learn a hole new system.

tohlmann wrote:Terry, I have been looking for an SSP gun. I have thought about Glock 17 or 35, but I hate the grip angle on Glocks. I have also considered the M&P 9 Pro as it has the best trigger I have felt for a DAO, but since you can #%#* and lock the CZ that might be the route I go.
