When does the begin...begin? |

Question relates to shooters using the Sig 226 or CZ DA/SA guns in SSP. The Sig226 shooter starts hammer fully decocked gun in holster and the CZ shooter
starts with gun with hammer fully down, gun in holster. Upon the signal to start can either shooter draw cxock their guns and fire or must the first shot be
taken DA? In short when does the begin...begin, with the drawing of the gun or the firing of the first shot?

Bob I dont know of any rule that keeps you from cocking the hammer before firing. Have had a lot of revolver shooters do it. It is slower, but if done right
its still safe.

I couldn't anything to prohibit either. As you say it just has to be slower.

There is no rule against thumbcocking the gun on the draw. I sometimes see it done by new shooters who have not learned the crunch-tick.
It's just slooooow. |

Sort of related to the discussion of lowering the hammer to rest against the firing pin, or lowering to the safety intercept notch where I decocker gun would
be lowered to.

Any discussion on that subject would be appropriate in that thread... that discussion is here http://www.idpaforum.yuku.com/topic/4434?page=1 As to this subject, I see nothing in the rules that says that the first shot must be fired DA, only that the hammer must be decocked at start on a selective DA/SA gun. Thanks guys. I agree. I am not sure what advantage there would be unless you have size XXXlarge fingers but to each his own. I have enough problems drawing my
gun and getting my first shot off quickly and accurately to be trying to coock the hammer back as well. I guess to each his own.
Take Care and thanks for the replies. Bob ps Stupid language editor!

Why would you want to #%@@ it first?
You obtain the grip on the gun while it's in the holster before you start the draw, you would have to shift your grip to #%@@ it - either strong hand or weak hand - and this takes time. Learn to to draw and fire the first shot DA and I can guarantee that you will be fast that cocking it first.

When does the begin...begin?
It begins at the beep of the timer. It does'nt matter if you c*ck the hammer or not, time begins at the beep. You will not find that cocking the hammer is faster than shooting the first shot DA. Learn to live with the DA/SA transition and go on from there.

You can fan the gun if you like.
