Question:

As some people hate the classifier and we've actually had people walk away from the sign-up table when they found that was what we were doing for a particular match, in September we did a 6 stage match - 3 classifier stages and 3 scenario stages. I wrote a little bit of software to break out the classifier stages so they could be calculated separately: http://www.slosa.org/idpa/results/2008-09-06.htm
We're planning to do this again for our January club match. But the question has arisen about the rule book proviso for reshooting classifier stages (C 11 on page 9).
Say our match has stages 1, 2, and 3 as classifier stages and 4 through 6 as scenario stages. What would seem fair to me and within the spirit of the rules would be that if somebody screws up stage 2, for example, that we could run him through stage 2 after the match, and calculate his classification based on that run combined with stages 1 and 3 from the match. That way he wouldn't be getting an advantage for the 6-stage match score, but the separated-out score might more accurately reflect his classification. Particularly with the price of ammo what it is, I don't see a point in making him reshoot stages 1 and 3 as well.

Answer:

I don't have a problem with this solution. It fills the obligation of the Classifier and as long as the match scores are posted with the pre-reshoot scores, it does not give the competitor an advantage in the match standing for reshooting a stage. This would follow the rule you listed on page 9 and also stay within the rules for reshoots of a classifier listed on page 69.

A win, win situation.
