Steve,
Common sense? I prefer logic.
Have you given out a single FTDR penalty for a broken gun/equipment failure in all the years you have SO'ed? If not, how can you logically give one out for one gun problem/equipment failure but not for another?
I have SO'ed at all levels (except nationals) for about 12 years and I have never heard-given-seen a FTDR for equipment malfunctions?
Never said you were anything but an excellent SO.
In this discussion, you stated that you thought a FTDR should have been awarded for a stated equipment malfunction (dud). As I have never heard of a FTDR given for a equipment malfunction, I believed that this was worthy of logical discussion. Your perspective seems to be solely concerned about not reloading for the last shot. Mine.... if one has equipment problems that would not be penalized by a FTDR in one instance but would result in a FTDR in another instance, this inconsistancy is not right. Equipment problems independently of severity should be called equally no matter when or where they occur during a CoF.
