Gotcha. I had intended to take off the magwell anyway, which just involves drifting out the mainspring housing pin and replacing it with a shorter one.

That rule is quite frustrating. The permissible length of the dust cover should be defined objectively, otherwise it makes little sense. For instance, the STI Tactical 5.0, which uses the same exact frame (and therefore the same length dust cover), would not run against this rule simply because the slide is longer. (The gun would nonetheless be illegal because of the 5.0 inch bull barrel.) More commonly, 5-inch 1911's probably have roughly the same length dust cover as my gun.

I'm new around here, so I don't know if this has been discussed previously in IDPA, but I believe quite strongly that IDPA matches should allow for the inclusion of a non-competitive shooting group. If some guy or gal manages to use a weapon-mounted light or other non-permitted feature on his carry gun, I understand that we don't want him or her to compete against more practical or common guns, but why should we prevent him from practicing under realistic conditions?
