Toni,
I very much appreciate your re-thinking the Team scoring system. The original system of class/division points (10 points for 1st in your class/division, 9 for 2nd, etc.) does even the playing field and allow Marksmen to compete on equal footing with Masters. MMs may be competing with MAs for team points, but they are not actually shooting against them. It is a scoring system that can make team competition in IDPA a reality, and actually allow a team of MMs to win against a team heavily loaded with MAs & EX.
I do think the added SO points detract from that. However, with that said, I am uncomfortable with the SO from Squadra Italiana (Gary Cuittia) and the SO from Team TSSA (Randy Rogers), not receiving 2 points for their Teams during the first Triple Crown match. Those were the rules in effect at the time and understood by all. Those two SOs were listed in the original Team rosters... up front and in public... and all the Teams were aware they would receive 2 extra points. I had no problem with that, and do not know of any shooters who did. If the SO points are, as you note, going to be dropped from future matches, I do think those two SOs should be awarded their points for the first match. They played by the rules existing at the time and deserve their Team points; fair is fair. No one from my team (who did not provide SOs) is going to complain about those two getting their points. We knew that going in, upfront and posted.
My problem was the additional SOs added to a team after the match was well over, but that has been resolved.
Chris
