Folks, the bashing is getting a tad out of hand (in the other thread) in my humblest of opinions.
Mark Riehl and the folks at Kettlefoot put on a good show this weekend, with a lot of hard work, time and effort to put on a match that shooters would enjoy. Personally, despite some hiccups, they did an OUTSTANDING JOB AT IT. PERIOD.
How many matches have you been to that have had stages thrown out AFTER the AC has APPROVED them? I can think of at least four in the last couple of seasons. It happens. No one is perfect. The match had a good mix of challenges and standards; swinging from a porch swing and shooting targets while trying not to screw the pooch on the priority order (I did!), launching six shots from a (cough) Glock 17 married to a AR type upper was a hoot (and I just might buy one for my Remmie 1911), the alligators didn't eat my shorts but messed with your mind to hit the down zero... All in all, an enjoyable, challenging match that despite some hiccups last year (their first year), was worth my time driving over 900 miles in the span of 36 hours and shooting the match again this year.
And tell ya'll what - I can't think of a more friendly, safety oriented batch of Safety Officers that volunteer their time and efforts to put on a good match for us, the paying 'customers' better known as competitors. The stages were explained well, what was expected of the shooter was explained well, what would get the shooter in trouble was explained well, safety issues to avoide were explained well, and EVERY Safety Officer was a Southern gentleman or lady when interacting with the shooters. There were no BS or chicken manure calls or tricks to screw the shooter, either. For that, I am thankful after some matches I've been to that seem to revel in nailing a shooter with penalties. This, in two short years, has become one of my favourite matches to shoot. I hope Mark and the Kettlefoot crew take the suggestions (politely emailed to the MD, Mark) that I'm sure folks will send him and improve the match for next year.Mark, et. al, - thanks for a great time this weekend. I'm looking forward to next year already, despite the 8 hour drive each way.
