I carry whenever I am out the State of California (utah CCW permit) since I cannot here in my own state. That will change when we move to Washington State next year. But even there I will not be able to carry at work since my employer The Home Depot does not permit employees to carry firearms. This resulted in the loss of a very dear friend 3 years ago when a convicted rapist, drug user, etc. walked into a Home Depot where my friend was filling in for another assistant manager. The felon shot my friend in the side resulting in damage to the femoral artery and his death a short time later. After 3years the felon finally went on trial and was convicted of murder under special circumstances. His penalty phase resulted in a hung jury 8 for death and 4 for life. He still is awaiting retrial for the penalty phase. His defense was he was abused as a child and raised by a drug using mother. This turned the page for me and I became reenvolved with the shooting community and purchased my current ccw weapon a Springfield XD40 tactical.
Why? How do you explain to someone that you value your life and the lifes of your loved ones more than another persons? How do you explain to someone that their loved one could have been saved if they were armed. How do you tell someone that they are a sheep waiting for slaughter?
I obtained my CCW after I learned the US Supreme Court ruled that "the police have no duty to protect the individual, only society at large". I have a loaded pistol at home and both myself and my spouse have training on how to use it, when to use it, and the consequences of using it. I am a former Woman Marine, an NRA Pistol Instructor, and Personal Protection in the Home Instructor. I compete in IDPA when and where ever my work schedule allows.
I will not be placed in a position that would have me regret for the rest of my life my inability to protect myself or my family or the life of a friend.
