I've read over the rules but I'm not sure if I'm good to go shooting in SSR or ESR. I have a GP100 with a skeletonized hammer. Is my gun legal in SSR and /or ESR? Rey

Posts: 5942 Jul 9 11 12:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Rey, The rulebook allows you to remove the hammer spur, but does not allow you to skeletonize the hammer. I don't think that mod is legal in SSR, or ESR. The SSR rules are pasted below. The ESR rules read similarly with respect to allowing the hammer spur to be removed. Koski Rulebook page 25 & 26: 6. Stock Service Revolver Division (SSR) Handguns permitted for use in this division must be: A. Any revolver of .38 Caliber (.357” or larger) or larger that utilizes ammunition with a rimmed case and is not reloaded with a full moon clip. B. Barrel length of 4.2” or less (as measured from the front of the cylinder). C. Have a maximum unloaded weight of 42 oz. D. Be loaded to the division capacity of six (6) rounds in the cylinder. Seven (7) and eight ( shot revolvers are permitted, but may only load six (6) rounds. PERMITTED Modifications (Inclusive list): 1. Sights to another conventional notch and post type (see “sights” in glossary for further information). 2. Action work to enhance trigger pull as long as safety is maintained (smoothing the trigger face, removing the hammer spur, use of over travel stop, conversion to DA only and addition of ball detent are considered action work and are permitted). 3. Grips to another style or material that is similar to factory configuration (no weighted grips). 4. Chamfer the rear of the chambers. 5. Shortening of factory barrels. 6. Custom finishes. EXCLUDED Modifications (NON-Inclusive list): 1. Oversize or heavy barrels. 2. Oversize cylinder latches.

Agreed, while it's not specifically listed in the parenthesis I think it is still in the inclusive list with the more general statement of “Action work to enhance trigger pull”. Todd

Thanks again, Ken Reed Yeah, it's a very fine line on the highly tuned revolvers - the occasional click does/would suck. Posts: 637 Jul 12 11 12:32 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can see where Steve Koski is coming from. Specifically, a skeletonized hammer is not on the list. Is it the same as a bobbed hammer, which is legal? I don't know however I wouldn't want to have one. Trying to picture a skeletonized hammer on a wheelgun, I thing that the hammer would be weak in places. Frankly, I wouldn't want to try it. Chuck

I, like you, would just grind off the hammer spur or buy a spurless hammer. I tried going to a lighter spring on my Ruger but ran into light hammer strikes and that can be a killer in our game. Fast and reloads don't go in the same sentence when I shoot revolver. Take Care Bob

However I can understand wanting the ability to fire SA on a more all-purpose gun and keeping the hammer - which is what I've done. If one wants to combine the two options with a skelotonized hammer there's some reasoning there. I wouldn't bother, but it make some sense. Todd

Seems like the popular vote is that it's good to go. A GP100 with a light hammer spring and skeletonized hammer will have you wondering if you are really shooting a GP100. Thanks again.

Understand that this is an inclusive list, and therefore it doesn't have to say you can't. If it's not listed, that means you can't. Some of us believe that stating "action work to enhance trigger pull" does list it. Someone else might take a hardcore stance and determine it needed to be specifically listed in the parenthesis. The rulebook should have either said for example in the parenthesis, not provided the list at all, or left off the action work to... and just listed the items. It all depends upon the intent or really for us users the interpretation by someone in charge of a match. Hopefully, you won't run into problems; I wouldn't expect you will??? Todd
