I would suggest that you buy some 45 ammo and go to another IDPA match and ask some of the guys that are shooting CDP if you can fire a few rounds in their guns. That way you can find out what features you like or don't like.

steviesterno wrote:Yep, You hit the nail on the head. You can talk to one top shooter that swears a $700 Springfield Loaded will do anything you ever need it to do in IDPA, Another will tell you to spend $2500 on a Wilson, Baer, Nighthawk or Brown if you want a pistol to last. Each believes and has experience to back up their individual experiences. You just have to sort through it all and go with what you are comfortable with and also justify the expense in your own situation.

yeah, i borrowed an alloy smith and wesson pd with rail ($800) and a custom shop kimber gold match ($2300). Basically I was able to hit a soda can at 50 yards
after a long day of shooting slugs with either one. I'm liking the Kimber Raptor II. just thinking about throwing on a magwell and calling it done. plus
the ed brown cobra wells match the pattern of the raptor, which is lacking on the back . not sure why. anyone go this route?

I 2nd the STi Trojan for value for your money. I have one in 9MM and the gun has been flawless with over 5K rds through it. The STI Eagle 5. is one great gun
and should be in your price range in your marketplace. They runover $2,300Cdn up here. Everytime I get the gun account up close to that amount a CZ or two
comes along and my dream gun goes back to being a dream. The best 1911 in .45acp I have experience with is my Dlask prepared Norinco. Unfortunately you
can't get them down there anymore. Gun runs like a clock and is extremely accurate.
I'll bow out now as I am committed to shooting CZ/Tanfoglio in SSP/ESP for next year. Take Care Bob

I have shot a lot of 1911's and owned 12 of them, but as of late, I find it pretty hard to beat the STI Spartan. I do not own one, and personally I am not
a big fan of Bomar style sights, but for the $$$ it is pretty hard to beat it, and the way it shoots, I could learn to live with the site. It all depends on
what you want to spend. I have seen shooters that shoot every bit as good with a Base model Kimber and a top of the line custom shop gun. It all boils down to
what features you like best, and any of the big name 1911 companies build good guns. For me, well work was good to use this year, i got a very good bonus
yesterday, and today, I am going to order myself a Trojan with fixed sights.

I got a Raptor a while back as a backup for my competition gun. (Yes, it was a rationalization.) The only thing I have done is to put on the Ed Brown magwell housing. The gun should have come that way! My primary gun is the Kimber Eclipse Target II. It shot so well I went looking for something to use it in and found IDPA. I have around 30K rnds through it. Over the first year added a magwell, ambi safety, and a fiber optic sight. Then later a trigger job and it has a wonderful 2lb trigger now. I have nothing against those wonderful $4000 guns, but I have seen guys with them that can't hit a barn. Find something that works for you, and runs. -Rob |

I'd like to 3rd the STI trojan. I got mine from Brazo's and also got his trigger job package and I am very pleased with it. It's only limitation is
most certainly me and it will run as fast and as accuratly as I can drive it.

Another vote for the STI trojan. It's what i shoot and once the initial break in was over and I got my OAL to something it liked it's been flawless.
Had a few jams but i think they were on me because of OAL to long.. Since then flawless...Got mine from brazo's with their trigger job and it shoots great!

I've had a lot of good results with a Taurus PT1911 in stainless. Did have to change out the ambi safety for single sided and did replace the backstrap to
add a mag well and added fiber optic sites. It has been very reliable and accurate. I have put ~ 2000 rnds downrange over last 10 months. For ~$650 retail and
~$200 in parts I'm happy.
This is a good site for 1911 discussions (http://forum.m1911.org). Good luck with what ever you pick. Rob |

I'd get a used les baer, or a used Ed Brown. If I were to buy new, then it would be a kimber.

$700 for a second hand Springfield Loaded. I change out the mag release for matches but put the big one back in afterward because this is my every day carry
weapon. This pistol is a great shooter and has everything that I need.
