I know this thread started a ways back but I feel like jumping in. I shoot sanctioned matches for the following reasons.

1. It is a chance to shoot and not have to run a match.
2. Majors are an opportunity to see old friends I have met over the last six years in IDPA.
3. An opportunity to steal ideas from other MD's.
4. It gets me out of the house.

I really like Matt's thoughts on a good match at a good price. We had our first major in a long time in Indiana last year and the match fee was $50. This year we are going to $55 as is my good friend Larry Hill for the Tri State in Memphis. So if you want plenty of shooting for a fair price, get in touch with Larry or I about our matches.

For our Indiana Match, we will have at least 18 COF's conceived in the spirit of IDPA. The highest round count will be 12. The match fee again is $55. I had to raise it $5 from last year to cover the cost of awards as mandated by the IDPA rule book. Lunch is $6 but you can bring your own. There are no mandatory t shirts. I sent out letters soliciting prizes from vendors but we are not buying any. We ran our prize table last year as a diversion waiting on scores to be complete using a silent auction format. We had about 30 nice donated prizes. It was fun. Hopefully no one received a Glock holster for their 1911. We are also keeping our round count reasonable but no stingy somewhere around 150. Ammo is expensive for people who don't reload. Anyway, I want to keep our sanctioned match challenging for the accomplished shooter but still fun and affordable for all shooters.
