I also like the fact that I can use my .45 single stack without being called a "dinosaur" I'm also an ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. In the English language, if we examine a portion of my earlier post ("week-old to IDPA"), the noun phrase "week-old", which is composed of the noun "week" and modified by the attributive adjective "old", would, by itself, suggest my age. (BTW, I'm 43) However it is connected by the preposition "to" to a proper noun (IDPA) and hence implies a particular relationship with the proper noun. But, yes, it would be difficult to learn phaco/LASIK before the age of 18 if one had to go through 4 years of high school, 4 years of college, 5 years of medical school and internship, 3 years of ophthalmology residency and 1 year of subspecialty training (which I did, as you called it, "stateside") Raul Last Edited By: davaodoc 12/01/08 12:23:17. Sometimes we blondes are soooooo literal... I've been working getting an ambulatory surgery center onto electronic medical records, and have probably watched a hundred KPE/IOL procedures in the ORs. (The center is owned by Dennis Shepard, who's now retired). Amazing that somebody came up with the idea of using ultrasonics to goo up a human eyeball lens so it could be vacuumed out... I've seen several of his videos on cataract surgery. If I recall, I think he has a son who is also an ophthalmologist. No wonder you know so much about phacoemulsification.. The next convention of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery will actually be held in San Francisco in April 2009. He also does surgery in the ASC where I'm contracting (the other 3 surgeons in the practice do the cararacts, trabs, LASIK, pterygiums, etc). In fact, if you look at our local club's last month's scores you'll note that Dan shot his first IDPA match As for IDPA... I know there's one club in the Bay Area that put on the CA state match in 2007. You could send Jim a note through the web page he's posted for the 2009 state match or contact Steve through the "Richmond Hotshots" contact information on the IDPA website. Our club near San Luis Obispo (link above - we're about 4 hours drive south of SF) shoots IDPA the first Saturday of each month. Sacramento has a monthly match.
