class progression |

I am having a little trouble deciding which class to shoot next.... I have only been shooting IDPA for a year now and shot my 1st couple of matches in SSP and
liked it but quickly bought a lightly used 1911 to shoot CDP and have been there ever since. I am going to nationals this year in CDP as a marksman, I shot the
last match at our club as an SSP sharpshooter and had a ball, I also shoot my 625 from time to time (2 matches to date) as an ESR marksman. I do not own an ESP
gun (except the G22 with a magwell maybe) but have full access to a 9mm 1911 and a CZSA. My question is, I know "most" folks start in SSP and
progress from there but I started to shoot in sanctioned matches with my 1911 but after nationals it's time to put it up for awhile and have fun with
something else.... how did you guys progress through the different classes? Should I start over in ESR or SSP??? I figure ESP would be last as it seems to be
the most competitive.
thanks,
Matt McArthur

My advice is to shoot what you are having the most fun with.

if i was shooting the nationals,i'd stay with CDP and nothing else...why mess around with another "platform"...i would practice the
basics, drawing, reloading and sight picutre 3 or 4 times a week, and along with alot of trigger[pressing] work in between....then when you get back from the
nationals ..kncok yourself out and have fun..

problem is it's all fun and I can barely make up my mid half the time.... the problem with having more than one gun huh?
Also, I meant to say Divisions and not classes....

I was checking out the forum and decided to sign. I became an idpa member earlier this year and I am enjoying being with like minded people.I'm from south
Texas and have been shooting at Texastactical.

Hey Matt
You may want to stick with ESR, since 2 of the 3 people that beat you this weekend were nearly twice your age and the other was shooting CDP(me). Just kidding you shoot well with anything you pick up.

thanks, but I beat everyone else LOL.... I'm about to get like Don and have way too may choices (not unlike yourself), I figure I'll start shooting ESR
alot more with the occasional SSP match every couple months. ESR in sanctioned matches in 09.... does shooting a revo make you a better auto shooter or do you
dump the mag after 6???

I don't dump after 6, but I keep trying to put the mag in the left side of the gun and it just won't fit.

Matt,
Some folks like to jump around, shoot all kinds of different guns, switch divisions every match or every few months, or every year. All different sorts. Personally, I prefer to shoot the same gun and keep that constant, and try and work on my skills. I think I shot a few matches in ESP years ago, but it's been SSP for me for as long as my recent memory can recall. No right or wrong answer. Whatever blows up your skirt. Take care, Koski |

I shoot what I carry. That means SSR and SSP. Concentrating on SSR right now.
I will probably never shoot anything else.
