In early Fall we'll statr having indoor, low light events at our Club and I'll need to buy some type of a light.

Lights must be hand held, those attached to the Gun are not permitted .... all I have is a "Mini-MagLite" that does not put out much light.

Would like to buy something ahead of time so I can get in some practice and develop a "grip" that works for me.

Your suggestions and experience please.

I have to agree with RobMoore on the First Light. Looks good but in our Indoor Clubs regional match with 5 flashlight stages all the winners use regular tube
end cap actuated flashlights, Mostly Surefires. They allow manipulation of the gun for reloads better. Plus some stages are best shoot one handed with the
flashlight held at neck level. You want to illuminate the targets but sight using the gun. Often guys will pay attention to aligning the flashlight on target
when it's not...

Yes, I shoot better with a small surefire using the surefire method (hands together, cigar) than I do with the first-light, which by the way isn't close
enough to a standard two handed grip. The inside handle breaks my weak hand away from the grip of the pistol. I get a better connection with a tube light. Have
you ever used a first-light? They aren't the same as shooting with no light at all.

So you're saying that you shoot better with the traditional flashlight grips than you do with a first light which you can use a traditional two handed
(maybe slightly modified for some models) shooting grip? That's impressive. Maybe you should consider shooting in those grips all the time then.
A gun mounted light is also an improvement... But they aren't allowed... as are lasers... All of these including the first light are practical, and are an

You can get a Coast Lenser LED at Home Depot for ~ $40. They are cheap and easy to buy and feed with (3) AAA alkaline batteries, very rugged and they work.
They also have a 1" body, so with a low, detachable 1" scope ring, you can stick them on your AR quad rail. Because of the batteries, you will have a
problem with them at temperatures below 0oF.

We see lots of flashlights at our Indoor IDPA club matches. Probably more Surefires used than anything else For pure IDPA competition I like a plain G2 with
one of Surefires added finger rings. Bright simple and easy to hold. There output is about right for Illuminating targets.; You can change mags by dropping
it then flip back into position fast. Never leaves your hand. Get the incandescent for 35 bucks or go with the LED for trouble free long bulb and battery life.
