This was resolved by HQ. Donated or purchased, the prizes have to be given out randomly. Capel gave a link to the appropriate thread.

All they need to do is drop the donated portion from the book and all would be clear. I don't really care about it that much. I did SO the match, you know how much work that is. I got a box of 9mm off the prize table, don't own one. All I am saying is we don't need implied rules. The way this is worded in the book it is about as clear as cover being avaliable, even if it's 10 yds away. The wording in the book needs to be cleaned up to eliminate the gray areas. Hmmm. Oh yeah, they said it was clearly against IDPA rules.

The rule states donated prizes specifically. Nobody knew how the division prize guns were to be distrubuted. The top 3 in all classes of the divisions were eligable. I was at the match and the only complaints I heard were here and not there. And by people who weren't there.

Because it's against IDPA rules. One of the main founding differences between IDPA and other shooting sports is that IDPA does not award prizes based on shooter performance. This cuts down on the %%$+%** factor: People behaving like %%$+%** because a $600 gun is at stake if they win.

No, Ken, I guess I'm not sure. Like many others I seem to have read something into the rules (in this case "does not endorse") that is not there. The emphasis should simply be on "does not approve."

They do not have any problem at all with guns being giving away. The rules state that all prizes and cash awards other than trophies MUST be given away by random draw NOT based on performance. The match in question was a sanctioned match and was obligated to abide by the rules. If you want to do it at a local match, it's officially discouraged, but not a direct violation of the rules like it was at the sanctioned match in question.

If you award a significant prize for winning an event, Humans by their very nature are going to strive to win it. Some will go to any lengths to win it. Just look at Watergate, there was no reason that Nixon needed that information. He would have and did win the election by a landslide without any of the information that would have been obtained. Or what about Football last year where Belecheck (Sp?) was caught video taping other teams practices. What about cheating in Stock Card...

Why does IDAP get so up set about guns being given away at a major shoot? I was told that they had a shoot (Match) in AZ and they gave them to the top shooters. Why would anyone have a problem with this? your thoughts.
