My Springfield 9mm 1911 came from the factory with two MetalForm magazines. They are a new design (by Rob Leatham, I think!) that has a tiny feed ramp and a groove in the front of the magazine to compensate for the shorter 9mm case. These mags have worked flawlessly. Also use Wilson 10 round ETM mags, they worked flawlessly as well.

I've never had any issues with the Tripp Research 10 rounders.

I took my 1911 9mm to the local IDPA match last weekend. It had been running pretty good here at home. Not at the match. Malfunction Junction.

I'm going back to Glocks and revolvers.

That's the best thing about 1911's. None of the mags work with all of the guns. You can always tinker and spend more money on mags that might work.

One cure I found with my Trojan was to go to a lighter recoil spring. Once I did my slide consistantly locked back after the last round. Before the change some mags worked...some didn't.

If I had a gun that wouldn't lock back on that many different mags, I think I'd be looking at the slide stop..

I use Metgar mags with metalform followers That combo works in both of my 9mm 1911's The Wilson new mags work real well in one and not at all in the other

I have 2 9mm 1911s. Both parts guns that run pretty well with Colt 9 round mags. My #1 mag just started not slide locking every time. I tweaked the follower a little and will test as soon as possible. I cleaned all of them too. Mercy, there was a lot of gunk in them.

Been around this hill a few times. I've tried the Metalform. No joy. My Nowlin seems to work best with McCormick 38 Super. Unfortunately, those are no longer being made. Tried the Tripp. While they ran great in my son's Springfield, no lock back on the Nowlin. Fearless leader showed up last May at our Multi-Club Regional with a CQB and new Wilson mags. Tried those too. Fed well. No lock back. For today, I am still with the...

I use the 10 round Cobra mags from Tripp Research and have not had any problems with them (at least none that I remember). With Metalform I have had problems. My most common problem with the Metalform is, if I chamber a round and then eject that mag (a "Barney mag") the top round in the mag has also stripped loose and will fall out.

I use the Metalform as well, but since there are two types from Metalform, you have to make sure they are the ones with the spacer in front. The magazines with the spacer in back.. some work in my gun, some not so well.

I borrowed some 10-round Cobras from a friend at the last stage of a match, and well, I should have tried them out AFTER the match. They turned my gun into a single-shot pistol. Bang. click. taprackBANG. click. taprackBANG. It was annoying, but it was also my fault....

Bob I use the Wilson ETM 9mm mags. Have never had a failure of any kind, and it goes to slide lock everytime. These are 10rd mags. Have a lot of friends who use Tripp mags with equal success. I use them in a Springfield 9130 9mm. Good luck.

Thanks for that input Larry. The mags the owner is having problems with are Metalforms. The gun is on the way back to Les Baer for diagnosis. We suspect the feed ramp angle may be off a bit. I was hoping a mag change might alleviate the problem.

My wife and I have used the 10 round Metalform all season last year. Not a single solitary problem. Not in the matches, nor in practice. We both shoot STI Trojans and the magazines performed flawlessly. I have had the same luck with their 9 rounders as well, but prefer the 10.

Hi all, Looking for recomendations for a 9 or 10 round mag for a 9 MM 1911 (Les Baer) pistol. I'm interested in the ones with the spacer in the front, setting the round to the rear of the mag. Anybody have any experience with these? (The owner is having problems with the bullet nose diving into the feed ramp from a slide lock reload.) We are hoping this mag will alleviate this problem.
