I have a ? that may seem dumb to many of you guys-n-gals but hear it gos.Can anyone tell me whats the difference between IDPA and USPSA. Iv read both rule books they seem like sisters.

Lunches at matches

I am currently working on scheduling a sanctioned match. I am curious about your opinions on lunch. Do you prefer it to be included in the match fee, or have the match fee reduced and be given a list/map with local places close to the range so you can get what you want for lunch?

Okay, I assume everyone here is "into" IDPA or you wouldn't show up. And I'm betting a large part of you are experience SO's at this game. I took the SO class in August though I would say I'm still in the OJT phase of being a Safety Officier.

So I'm scanning through the latest Tactical Journal to see all the Nationals coverage and notice two pics that kinda worry me. See page 19 and again on page 22. Both pics show fingers heading toward triggers...

What is wrong with this picture?

First of all I chose IDPA over the other sports because overall I prefer the IDPA rulebook over the others. The Gun Divisions and Use of Cover rules keep me at home with IDPA. So nothing I list below is such a big deal to me that I won't continue to shoot this sport above all others. However, these are things that seem to repeatedly pop into my feeble mind and I often find frustrating.

About when is National posted for everyone to see? Is it about the sametime of the year as it was this year? Who and how do they pick where it will be held? Just wondering because I would like to attend my first one next year and with a business, wife and four kids it would be nice to know so I'm fully prepared. Thanks for any info.

Would like some input from those of you who fly often to matches. What modestly priced priced, TSA approved cases do you use/recommed that hold two handguns? How about any advice on heading off any other problems you may have encountered while flying? Thanks,

Classifier Low Cover

Stage 3 / Strings 2 and 3 require the shooter to kneel and fire from around 'either side of the barrel' at position 5. We have some large shooters at our matches who when kneeling, find it quite difficult to use cover properly (50% of upper torso behind cover) and still safely aim without shooting over the top of the barrel.

Has anyone used two-stacked barrels at position 5 to address this issue? With the two-stacked barrels the shooter would still be kneeling and would have...

Newbie Question

Hi all, getting ready to attend an IDPA match at the end of the month... my first time to try it out.
I have a noob question (at least it feels like one); I plan on using a Blackhawk Serpa holster to draw
a .40 24/7 Pro.
Here's my question finally: after I load and make ready... am I required by the rules to use the safety?
Is disabling a safety on drawing a requirement?
What if the gun is DA/SA? Does that make a difference? (I bet I'm sounding so green!)...

Flashlight techniques

Howdy,
October is our annual night match month, and I was just preparing our group by sending out bassic reference material on flashlight techniques. Here is a good basic starting point for using a typical flashlight with a handgun. http://www.surefire.com/articles-handheld_techniques It does not cover some of the newer flashlight configurations like the one used at the Nats however.

Maryland matches?

Hi, trying to get into matches in maryland.They seem few and far between. There is one club in Anne Arundel county that has them but almost impossible to get into it. they send out an email alert then the first certain number of respondants get it. I responded about 1 hour after the last alert and didnt make it, so people are at this like pirhanas. Any ideas on other clubs?

Howdy,
How many of your local clubs have an "outlaw" division? That is a place for people to regularly shoot with non-compliant equipment. I don't mean the occasional new shooter showing up with non-compliant equipment. This question was spurred by a thread I just read over on BE.

Starting in IDPA - is ESP possible

Is it possible to start IDPA in ESP or should a beginner start in SSP? I would like to use my XDm 9mm, but it has stippling on the handle which means it can't be used in SSP. Or should I just look for using another pistol, maybe my Ruger P95?

I had an interesting time working the chronograph. I thought I'd point out a few things. I am working from memory, so the numbers may be a bit off.

If you are collecting ammunition from the shooters, it was faster for us to pull and weigh the bullet than it was to ask the shooter for the bullet weight.
