IDPA Rules Questions

PE for not firing the minimum required shots.

The question came up at a local match where I shot last weekend, COF requires 14 shots minimum fired 7 targets 2 shots each. Shooter after reloading from slidelock failed to reengage T6 with one shot, moved directly to T7 and fired 2 shots, and ended the COF.

Obviously there was at least a down 5 on T6 but since the shooter only fired 13 shots in a COF that requires 14, is this a procedural?

This scenario is not a FTDR IMO because it was clearly shooter error not...

CZ Aluminum Grips Legal for SSP?

The rulebook says that : "Grips may be changed to another style or material that is similar to factory configuration (no weighted grips; see 'weighted grips' in glossary for further details)." It then goes on to define "weighted grips" as "Any set of grips that weigh more than two (2) oz. over factory standard weight for the model."

I don't believe the CZ aluminum grips weigh 2 oz more than the factory rubber grips (I think they weigh less),...

aftermarket barrel for ssp

Does anyone know if installing an aftermarket , drop-in barrel , like a kkm or a barsto barrel is legal in ssp?

Moving out of cover while doing a tac reload?

I just saw Matt Burkett's IDPA video and in stage 3 of the classifier he moves out of cover while performing a tac reload. He only moves once the new mag is inserted in the pistol, therefore he moves from P1 to P2 while stowing the old mag.

If I look at C 3. it says "...... All reloads begin wit the shooter's first action to initiate the reload (ejection of the magazine, drawing a spare magazine, etc.) and end when the weapon is fully...

IDPA box

In the new issue of "Tactical Journal" the National Championship write up mentions a stage that starts by drawing from the IDPA box to start the COF. What is done for revolvers that by rule do not have to fit in the box? I know my S&W 625 does not fit. Thanks, Jim.

Another classifier question

After reading the book I am still unclear. I know you cannot (with limited exceptions) re-shoot a classifier. What is not clear is if that is a blanket prohibition for that day, or is it limited to one particular division.

I have a classifier coming up next weekend and would like to shoot it first in SSP then in SSR to have both my classifications have the same expiration date.

Can I do that legally? Or do I need to pick one pistol and do the other one some other time?

The C.o.F. starts the shooter with 4 rounds in the gun, 2 full mags/speeedloaders on the belt. 1 cardboard target and 1 target that is basically a piece of plastic shaped like a bottle. At the signal the shooter is to engage the carboard with 2 to the body and 1 to the head and shoot the bottle , if the bottle target falls off the table or even moves it is considered a -0 hit. Targets can be engaged in any order . Vickers count

If I was shooting a STI Eagle in 40 cal ( double stack ) in a match in ESP and had a failure, would a STI Trojan ( single stack ) in 40 cal meet all requirements for rule book as replacement to finish match, assuming I use 10 round mags ?

Moonclip Reload with Retention??

I'm still new to IDPA but have shot USPSA for a while. I just got a S&W 625 to use in both sports and have an IDPA match coming up so I thought I'd peruse the rule book to see what the specifics are for reloads. I cannot find anything in there regarding whether or not I need to keep the moonclipped empty brass and put it in a pocket or if I can drop it on the ground and leave it for later. I understand that may be up to the individual match/stage officer but just wanted to know...

Dropping an empty magazine

Could someone explain to me the logic in the rule that requires a penalty for dropping and empty magazine if you still have a round in the chamber? I understand the tactical principal in stowing a partially loaded magazine, but why an empty one? As a true tactical principal it seems to me an empty magazine should be treated as a slidelock reload, not a retention reload unless they plan to allow the carring of additional rounds in your pocket to replenish the mag if you use all your loaded...

DNF question

Question regarding DNF (Did Not Finish). If a shooter fails to comlete a stage due to a broken firearm the rule book gives two options on how to deterrmine a score. The second option is the minimum number of shots required for the stage will be multiplied by three (3) seconds for a stage score. My question is, would this option apply even if that score (rounds required x 3) is lower than a majority of the shooters in the field scored?
